The 1970s has a lot to answer for. And we don’t just mean terrible wallpaper and ridiculous hairstyles. It was also the decade of polyester, the so-called wonder fabric that gave rise to some pretty dire leisurewear, including the fleece jacket. That’s because every time you wear or wash a polyester fleece, they shed tiny microplastics that end up polluting rivers, oceans and ecosystems.
